The Urban Cave is a story about the resilience and humanity of people who live unsheltered on the other side of conventional society. It is about a group of individuals and the full spectrum of their lives, rather than just their deprivations. The images are in response to the beauty of a place, a people, and the dignity, determination, and perseverance reflected in their culture.
The train tunnel has been evacuated, the Batcave has been sealed off and the people dispersed but The Urban Cave photo book will preserve the story of these displaced people, the unusual beauty of the home they made and the strength and determination with which they lived.
By backing The Urban Cave you will help to document this unique and recently dispersed community that survived for more then two decades under the streets of Harlem.
